LSTH01. BR ex- LMS Stanier ‘Duchess’ Pacific 4-6-2 and Tender No. 46242 ‘City of Glasgow’. In lined BR blue livery with early crest and shedplate 1B Camden, also with 'The Royal Scot' headboard fitted. Paired with a de-streamlined tender which it received in January 1946 and formerly with No. 46220 'Coronation'. It also has the sloping smokebox front which identifies it as one of the de-streamlined Duchesses (at a later date in BR days these sloping smokeboxes were converted to the parallel version). The model is by Sancheng for Finescale Brass and has all the the usual Sancheng detailing such as opening smokebox door and tender filler cap, compensated chassis and excellent cab detail. The model has been used as a 'display case' model only plus lubrication and light testing by ourselves. It is supplied in a plain non-original box. The prototype was into service from Crewe Works in May 1940 going first to Camden (as they all seemed to do) then going to Polmadie in 1944. It then went back to Camden in 1948, Crewe North in 1953, Camden in 1954 and Polmadie in March 1961 staying there until withdrawal in October 1963. It had a double chimney from new, and was de-streamlined with smoke deflectors fitted in March-May 1947. It carried this BR blue livery (regular version not the experimental version) with early crest from August 1949 until November 1953 at which time it had the parallel smokebox fitted and was painted in BR green. However its history is complicated as it was one of the locos involved in the Harrow disaster of October 1952. When it emerged from Crewe Works following repair it had been fitted with the continuous curved running plate matching that of the members of the class originally built as non-streamlined locos. So the model is represented here as running (1) In BR blue livery as painted in August 1949 (2) With de-streamlined tender with which it was paired until July 1951 and also (3) Before the Harrow disaster of October 1952. £1995.
