LSTH03. LMS Stanier ‘Duchess’ Pacific 4-6-2 and Tender No. 6231 ‘Duchess of Atholl’. In lined LMS black in the livery style used from 1946 to 1948 and retained into very early BR days. The shedplate is 27A which was Glasgow Polmadie in LMS days. Paired with a de-streamlined tender which it received in January 1945 and retained until withdrawal (formerly with No. 6249 'City of Sheffield'). This represents one of the original batch of five non-streamlined LMS Duchesses having the continuous running plate (Buccleuch, Atholl, Montrose, Sutherland, Abercorn). The model is by Sancheng for Finescale Brass and has all the the usual Sancheng detailing such as opening smokebox door and tender filler cap, compensated chassis and excellent cab detail. The model has been used as a 'display case' model only plus lubrication and light testing by ourselves. It is supplied in a plain non-original box. The prototype was into service from Crewe Works in June 1938 to Camden going to Glasgow Polmadie in February 1940 and staying there until withdrawal in December 1962. It had a double chimney fitted in June 1940 and smoke deflectors in September 1946. It carried this black livery from sometime in 1946 (date not recorded) until repainting in the first (experimental) BR blue in May 1948. £1800.
